One Week Until THE OPEN!

By: 0

Our first Friday Night Lights of 2019 is one week from today! We are SO excited and hope you all are, too.

What is the CrossFit Open?

The CrossFit Games website provides us with the best explanation! Check out their website at http://games.crossfit.com/about-the-games/the-open or just read what they have to say below:

“The CrossFit Games Open is the world’s premier test of fitness. Since 2011, the five-week five-workout online competition has accurately ranked the fitness of thousands of competitors.

Held in CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms, the Open is designed to be accessible to all athletes while rigorous enough to challenge the world’s fittest. Fourteen-year-old high school freshmen compete in the Open, as well as their 77-year-old grandparents and everyone in between.

Sign up for $20, do the workouts, enter your scores, and you will be ranked in relation to your peers in your age division, competition region, state and country.

Workouts are released online each Thursday and athletes have until the following Monday to submit their scores.

It all starts February 21, 2019.”

What is the Rise Athletics Intramural Open?

The Intramural Open is meant to increase FUN and participation during the CrossFit Games Open. We don’t really care who wins and you can’t possibly hold back your prospective teams. The Intramural Open isn’t about placement or a reliving of the glory days. We do the Intramural Open as a community-building event where we can all get together, challenge ourselves and accomplish things we never before thought possible.

We have 5 teams between both Rise Athletics locations, but we are really just 1 big community trying to have some healthy competition during the funnest and most accessible CrossFit event of the year!

If you are still on the fence about participating, please email us! We will happily answer any questions that you have. If you are going to be at the gym on Fridays for the next 5 weeks, you’ll be doing the workouts anyways. Please join a team- we guarantee you won’t regret it!

Athletes must register for the CrossFit Games Open at www.games.crossfit.com in order to contribute to team points! Teams and athletes will score points based on the following:

  1. +1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at Rise or Rise Ferndale each week earns one point once they submit their score to the games.crossfit.com website. Maximum one point per athlete per workout. This goes for Rx AND Scaled competitors!
  2. +1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at Rise or Rise Ferndale for each workout (Rx only) gets an extra point for their team.
  3. +5 Points – Spirit of the Open: Each week we will pick one athlete who displays amazing SPIRIT during that week’s workouts. You’ll find this person cheering others on, volunteering to judge others, helping people get prepared, doing something amazing they never thought possible, gaining a new skill, etc etc.
  4. + 5 points – Hardest Worker: Each week, we will pick one athlete who we believe worked the hardest in that week’s workout. That athlete will earn their team 5 extra points. The person DOES NOT have to complete the workout RX to win.

Important Dates:

We will be doing the Open workouts in all classes on Fridays during the 5 weeks of The Open. The main event happens during the night-time heats where we hold our “Friday Night Lights” workouts. Show up and please bring your friends and family to spectate and take pictures!

There will be a sign-up posted every Thursday that will be first come, first serve. Please show up as early as possible to sign up for a heat, help judge and cheer everyone on! We hope that everyone will work out in one heat and judge one heat unless there is an emergency or planned event elsewhere.
